Women’s Institute banner.
Green damask ground with hand stitched tree and swan in the centre, worked in cotton purla in a variety of embroidery stitches. Applique banner across the top and bottom edge made with a beige silk ground with hand stitched wording worked in satin stich reading – BUCKS WOMENS INSTITUTE. FOR HOME AND COUNTRY

The banner was in fair condition and required a surface and mechanical clean and stabilisation of fraying threads and fabric, which was achieved by using conservation net and fine thread to secure in place.
