Restoration of small French Marquetry Commode
Restoration of Small, marble topped, French Commode veneered with marquetry on a Tulipwood ground c. 1760

The commode had suffered veneer damage through shrinkage of the pine carcase. Several pieces of veneer were missing. and others loose and in some cases buckled.
The ormolu was removed and washed. Loose veneers were glued down and missing veneers replaced. The replacment veneers were coloured in and polish to match the original. The surface was cleaned and finished with a thin coat of shellac. The mounts were replaced and the item wax polished with non acidic wax.
