12th century copper alloy bowl with figurative decoration, private client
Posted: May 23, 2022This bowl was found by a metal detectorist at a site in Kelshall, Hertfordshire. Despite being in very poor condition, with extreme thinning, deformation, fracturing, corrosion and loss of the metal due to the burial environment, treatment did improve stability, as well as make the remarkable incised decoration on the interior more visible. -

Posted: May 20, 2022Removal of the Arts & Crafts influenced WWI memorial window designed by Robert Anning-Bell and made at Lowdnes and Drury. Partial re-leading of bowed sections and coordination with stone mason Reuben Marsh who was commissioned to replace the entire Polyphant stone tracery. -

Cleaning of medieval stained glass and replacement of bars to the Lady Chapel east window. Replacement of bars and partial re-leading to Christopher Whall stained glass. Provision of new casements. -
Onyx decorative figure of a horse, private client
Posted: May 18, 2022This onyx (calcium carbonate) figure was one of two that came into the workshop, with issues ranging from chips, breaks and losses to general dirt and aged adhesives from previous repairs. The challenge here was restoring a missing ear and several small chips, and replicating the translucency, tone and sheen of the repair fills. -
Court Room Royal Coat of Arms, St Albans Museums
Posted: May 18, 2022This project involved the conservation and replacement of broken and missing stone elements from a Royal Coat of Arms, restoring it to its original appearance. This required limited paint research to identify whether any early or original paint schemes existed, and the creation of a new unicorn horn. -
