Cleaning and pressing an etching on wove paper by Ben Nicholson.1967.

The print had time staining and planar distortions from exposure to damp from a house flood.

The prints are distinctive for their finely etched lines, deep bevelled plate marks and harmonious relationship of the asymmetric plate to the full sheet of paper. [sculptural in concept].
After careful washing to remove soluble staining, the print paper was stabilised with a light de-acidification treatment on the verso.
The print was pressed between paper makers felts.
Special ‘step- cut’ blotter templates were placed verso and recto to accommodate the three dimensionality of the paper and keep the incisive sculptural quality of the plate mark.
