A padded board to mount the textile ready for framing was prepared using Correx, covered in wadding for a little padding and then a layer of calico After discussion with the client a top layer of blue linen fabric was chosen to compliment the bright colours in the piece. The board was lined with calico to hold the layers in place and maintain the tension over time. The piece was weighted over an extended period of time to reduce the cockling and the edged humidified with light contact humidification to allow stitching to the board. The textile was stitched to the padded board using long and short stitch round the edges worked in a fine polyester thread in a colour close to the ground of the piece. To prevent the piece from sagging over time a series of grid lines were worked within the body of the piece using ultrafine polyester and working along design lines.
