Conservation and cleaning of ‘The Millstream’ by John Constable, 1814
The painting was barely visible through layers of dirt and varnish.
Date completed : 19 November 2014 Duration : 16 Weeks
The conservation project took place in public view in Christchurch Mansion Museum, Ipswich.
Daily Q and A sessions were held, where I was able to discuss the X-rays and paint samples that had been taken,
and how they enabled the painting to be fitted technically into the body of Constable’s life and work.
