About Me
Accredited natural history conservator supplying services to the heritage sector and private clients across the UK and Europe
My expertise is in the conservation of taxidermy, fluid preserved specimens, bone, and skeletal articulations, and in my background as a human anatomist I also undertake work on human remains, medical and pathology collections. I also work with entomology, botany, geology and palaeontology. I am an approved National Trust conservation contractor.
In addition to remedial work, I have considerable experience undertaking collections surveys, making advisory reports on collections management, and provide training in taxidermy collections care. I have a good knowledge of health and safety, managing the COSHH and risk assessments for a busy conservation studio. I can provide support and guidance for H&S when working with natural history and biological materials, particularly in regards to pregnancy.
I am a proactive advocate for conservation and my specialism. I am a trustee of Icon (Institute of Conservation), and an assessor for the Icon professional accreditation qualification (PACR). I sit on the finance committee, and the Inclusion & Diversity Task and Finish Group. I am a trustee and conservation representative for the NatSCA (Natural Science Collections Association) committee. In support of this role I have formed a sub group of natural history conservators to help inform the committee in its representation of the specialism. I am also on the NatSCA journal editorial board. Previously, I served as co-ordinator of the ICOM-CC Natural History working group. I take great enjoyment in engagement and outreach work, and have given talks and lectures to schools, community and local interest groups.
