The curtains and pelmets had splits along the leading edges and throughout the lining, caused by light and mechanical action over many years. The curtains were cleaned using low powered vacuum suction and dry sponges to lift the soiling. The splits were supported using dyed cotton support patches, conservation couching and a net overlay to provide strength to the weak areas. All the work was done onsite to providing visitor engagement.
