Restoration of Alexander of Tunis
Alexander of Tunis, a senior and highly decorated British Army officer who served in both of the World Wars and who became Governor General of Canada and the first Lord Lieutenant of Greater London in 1965, has a magnificent monument by the incredible sculptor, Alec Butler, at Wellington Barracks in London.
The statue has suffered from a harsh urban environment and had corroded uniformly. We undertook a full restoration of the monument to return the sculpture to as close a representation of the original finish as possible.
This project involved research of the original finish, contact and communication with the sculptor, DOFF cleaning, corrosion removal and treatment, repatination and hot waxing.
