The painting ‘Mere Poussepin’ by Gwen John is oil on canvas, with an unfinished sketch on the reverse of the painting. The painting belongs to The Barber Institute of Art and was conserved in preparation for being lent to the exhibition ‘Gwen John, Art and Life in London and Paris’ at Pallant House Gallery. 

The painting was dusted and surface dirt was removed using dry cleaning methods. Areas of unstable paint were consolidated and losses were retouched. The painting was framed to conservation standards with TruVue acrylic glazing and twin-wall polycarbonate backing.
